Sotawall is looking for a fulltime, permanent employee to fill our Drafting Managing role at our Winnipeg location. The successful candidate can look forward to working in an innovative, fast paced environment, which cultivates learning and growth within our organization.

Sotawall is a curtain wall industry leader, designing and building facades for many prominent high-rise buildings. We have a strong presence in the US and Canada – especially in cities like New York, Boston and Toronto.

Main Responsibilities

  • Lead the drafting team in the completion of all projects, receiving and dispersing assignments, and managing workloads on a daily and weekly basis
  • Coordinate with head office on project release schedules, determining priorities, deadlines, and delegating work to team accordingly
  • Ensure that all technical drawings completed by your drafting team conform to company standards
  • Increase the quality, accuracy, consistency and clarity of drawing output from drafting offices
  • Provide feedback to Head Office surrounding shortcomings found in drawings or designs
  • Provide suggestions to increase productivity and output by automating or setting up templates within AutoDesk products
  • Review documentation packages and producing drawing sets – specifically shop drawings and related revisions, fabrication releases and frame assembly drawings
  • Manage the drafting team in items related to Administration and Human Resources, such as disciplinary action, staffing levels, expenses, vacations, absences, and training
  • Maintain a positive, safe, and cohesive work environment
  • Additional duties as assigned and required


  • Completion of a 3 year college program in engineering design and drafting technology, or in a related field is strongly preferred
  • 5 years of experience in curtain wall facade, interpreting/developing technical drawings
  • 3+ years of experience in a management/supervisory role
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and people, delegating and overseeing work to meet deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to process and extract large amounts of information, thereby ensuring that the quality of all work completed within the department meets company standards
  • Firm grasp of the creation and workflow of shop drawings, fabrication releases, component release methods and related standards
  • Highly proficient in the use of AutoCAD
  • Ability to use Inventor is an asset, but training can be offered and paid for by Sotawall
  • Ability to effectively use all Microsoft Suite Applications
  • Effective communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to communicate in an effective manner to different people and departments
  • Strong managerial & organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and demonstrate a flexible approach to work assignments
